INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
The 1999 World T&F Championships in Seville will be Susan's second time in this competition, having finished 7th in the 400m hurdles final in 1997 in Athens. In the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta the Waterford girl just missed out on a place in the final finishing 5th in her semi-final. In the European T&F Championships in 1998 she placed 8th in the 400m hurdles final and 5th in the 100m hurdles semi-final. Susan is a regular competitor on the Grand Prix circuit with extensive international experience in both the long and short hurdles.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
Susan confirmed her place on the team for Seville with two world class performances to gain a hurdles double in the 1999 TNT BLE Senior T&F. This brought her total number of BLE National Senior hurdles titles to 11. In the 400m Hurdles she won in 1992, 96, 97 and 99, while at the shorter 100m hurdles distance she claimed gold in 1989, 90, 91, 92, 95, 98 and 99.
1999 FORM
Susan has raced extensively on the Grand Prix circuit in 1999. She posted a season best time of 55.1 to win the 400m hurdles in the IAAF Permit Meet in Barcelona. She set a new BLE Senior CBP of 55.54 to take the BLE title, but just missed out on a World Record in the 200m hurdles in the Cork City Sports, clocking 26.93 in windy conditions. With a total of six sub 56.00 performances in Barcelona, Dublin, Nice, Luscerne, Osaka and Crystal Palace; and three sub 57.00 performances in Casablanca, Gateshead and Oregon, Susan seems to be coming into form at just the right time.
