INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
This will be Karen's first appearance in the World T&F Championships. She finished 4th in the recent World Student Games 400m final where she broke the National Record in both the semi-final (51.80), and final (51.07). She was a winner of the 1999 Europa Cup 400m in Finland. In the 1998 European T&F Championships in Budapest Karen set a new National Record to finish 5th in the semi-final. Earlier in 1998 she added the National indoor record of 53.45 with a 4th place finish in the semi-final of the European Indoor T&F. She competed in the 200m in the World Junior T&F in 1996.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
Karen is the National Record holder in the 400m with a time of 51.07 secs. She has broken the National Record four times in the last 13 months. She easily added the 1999 TNT BLE Senior T&F title to the two she had previously won in 1997 & 1998. She also took 3rd in the 200m in 1998.
1999 FORM
Karen has shown a good improvement in 1999, taking over a second off her own National Record. She opened the season with four straight victories over 400m in the Irish Uuniversities Athletic Association T&F, BLE Games, GV Ryan and a fantastic 52.66 to win the Europa Cup. The Newbridge girl placed 3rd in the Antrim International 300m in 38.63, before posting her fifth sub 54.00 400m to take 2nd in the Cork City Sports. Two National Records led to a 4th place finish at the World Student Games in Mallorca, prior to the successful defense of her BLE Senior T&F title.
