INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
The 1999 World T&F Championships will be Gary's second time to compete in this competition., having finished 18th overall in the 200m in Athens in 1997. He reached the quarter final of the 200m in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. In the 1997 World Student Games in Italy Gary just missed out on a medal finishing 4th in the 200m final. In the same Championships in 1999 he reached the semi-final stage. Gary was a semi-finalist in the 1998 European Championships 200m in Budapest. Indoors he was a semi-finalist in the 1997 World Championship, and a quarter finalist in the 1998 European Championships.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
Gary is the National Record holder in both the 100m and 200m. He claimed his place for Seville with a fantastic sprint double in the 1999 TNT BLE Senior T&F Championships. In the 100m he clocked a new National Record of 10.45secs, while his 200m victory brings his total number of titles to four in that event (1996-99). Indoors the Nenagh man has four BLE National Senior 200m titles (1994, 96, 97, 98).

1999 FORM
Early season runs in El Paso and Mt. Sac (USA) produced times of 20.91 (w) and 10.56. Victory in the BLE Games 100m led to a second place finish in 20.96 in the Europa Cup in Lahti, Finland, where he also ran the 100m. This was followed by a 200m 3rd place in the Antrim International. In the Cork City Sports Gary won the 100m in a lifetime best 10.18 (w), and 200m in 20.60 (w). He placed 3rd in Budapest with 20.79. In the World Student Games he reached the 200m semi-final posting a fastest time of 20.79in the heats. He secured qualification by winning the sprint double in the BLE Nationals, setting a new National Record of 10.45 in the 100m.
