INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
This will be Gillian's first time to compete in the World T&F Championships. She finished 72nd in the 20km Walk at the World Cup in France in 1999, and 8th at the World Student Games in Mallorca over 10km. Gillian finished 23rd at the 1998 European T&F 10km Walk in Budapest in 1998. In 1997 she finished 9th at the European U23 T&F Championships 10km Walk, and 8th at the World Student Games 10km walk in Italy. She placed 4th in the 10km competition at the Spanish Championships in 1998.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS/RESULTS
Gillian has been unbeaten domestically in recent years. She is the current BLE National Senior 10km Champion and BLE Senior Indoor 3km Champion. In 1998 the Kerry girl took the 5km title at the BLE National Senior T&F Championships in a CBP of 21.57.22, and the 3km title at the BLE National Indoors in Nenagh, Co Tipperary.
1999 FORM
Gillian began 1999 with a victory in the BLE National Indoor T&F 3km Walk in a time of 12.58.13. She took the Isle of Man International title over 10km in 47.09.23, and the BLE Senior 20km title in Cork in 1h43.41. In the World Cup in France she finished 72nd in a time of 1h42.22. She equalled her 8th place finish of 1997, in this year's World Student Games in Mallorca. However her time in 1999 was over 2 minutes faster, recording 46.45.51 for the 10km race.
