Sonia O'Sullivan (Ballymore Cobh AC) ran the fastest ever 10 miles by a woman at the BUPA Great South Run from Southsea to Portsmouth, England on Sunday, 8th September. O'Sullivan clocked 51.00 surpassing American via South Africa Colleen De Reuck's 51:16 run in Washington, D.C. in 1998. Kenyan Simon Kasimili won the men's race in 47.30. KEITH KELLY IS BACK! Kelly, from Drogheda AC, who has been injured for almost a year emerged with a victory at the Komen Race for the Cure Boston 5K held in Boston, Massachusetts on 8th September running 14.29. Providence graduates took both titles as Marie McMahon Davenport (Marion AC) won the women's race in 16.18 with Sinead Delahunty in 6th (18.12). Garry Crossan (Letterkenny A.C.) won the Irish Half-Marathon Championships in 1.07.42, some 52 seconds clear of runner-up Killian Lonergan. Anne Lennon (Mayo A.C.) won the women's race 1.20.02 with Niamh O'Sullivan (Riocht A.C.) in second in 1.20.48. Hendricken placed sixth in 4.04.30 at the ISTAF - IAAF Golden League held in Berlin, Germany on 6th September and won 1,250 Euros. Geraldine Hendricken (St Laurence O'Toole AC) ran another Personal Best in the 1,500m. Hendricken placed sixth in 4:03.08 at IAAF Golden League Memorial Van Damme meeting held in Brussels, Belgium on 30th August. This is an improvement of .10 on her time of 4.13.18 set in her first Golden league race in Monaco on 19th July. Prior to this season, Henricken was ranked 19th on The Irish all-time lists with a clocking of 4.16.42 dating back to 1991. Anne Keenan-Buckley who turned 40 on the 7th January ran 15.47.73 at the 2002 Irish Championships. This was believed to be a World Masters (W40) record eclipsing the current record is 15.51.7 set by Nicole Leveque (France) in 1994 when she was 43. David Monti, distinguished journalist from Race Results Weekly reports that Romanian Elena Fidatov, date of birth 24-July-1960, ran 15:20.59, at her national championships in Bucharest on August 7, about two weeks past her 40th birthday. Karen Shinkins (Dublin City Harriers) placed 3rd in the 400-metre event running 52.43 at the Zywiec SA Cup Meeting held in Poznan, Poland on 18th August. Andrew Walker (Clonliffe Harriers) ran 3.45.52 to place 4th in the 1,500m at the Karelia Games held in Lappeenranta, Finland on 18th August. Sonia O'Sullivan ran a seasonal best (8.33.62) in the 3,000 metres when she placed 3rd at the Weltklasse Gold League meeting held in Zürich, Switzerland on 16th August. Deirdre Ryan (University College Dublin) placed 4th in the high jump with a leap of 1.74m at the Memorial Leo Calewaert ~ EAP Meeting held in Brasschaat, Belgium on 14th August. Ciaran McDonagh (Fr. Murphy's AC) leaped 7.45m (0.0) to place 4th in the long jump and Michelle Carey (Dublin Striders) ran 59.79 to place 4th in the 400m hurdles.
