Falkirk & Birmingham Results
2003-2004 Reebok Cross Challenge Series

The 2003-2004 Reebok Cross Challenge Series is comprised of six competitions which include: Falkirk, Scotland (18th October), Senneleys Park, Birmingham (1st November), Sefton Park, Liverpool (22 November - Trials for European Championships and European Clubs), Stormont, Belfast (10th January 2004), Cardiff, Wales and Wollaton Park, Nottingham (6th March - Trials World Cross Country Championships and UK Inter-Counties Championships).

Birmingham, England - 1st November
Séamus Power (Kilmurray/Ibrickane) placed 2nd in the Senior Men's race traversing the challenging 10-kilometre course in 33.04. Peter Matthews (Dundrum South Dublin) continues to improve placing 7th in 33.37. Chris Davies (Telford AC) won the race in 32.48.

Ireland had five entrants in the Women's Under20/Under 17 race with DSD's Linda Byrne placing 4th running 17.22 on the 4-kilometre course. Raheny's Aoife Talty was 21st in 18.55 followed by Mairead Doherty from Letterkenny AC (32nd, 19.29) and Tracey Williams (Tallaght AC) who ran 19.54 for 39th place.

Finn Valley's Patsy McGonagle and Patsy Doherty travelled to Birmingham as well with the U15 and U17 boys. The U15 boys finished in 11th place with good runs from Conor McConnell in 32nd, Diarmuid Fullerton 54th, Kevin Gallagher 65th, Maurice Boyle 73rd and Brian Patton 90th.

The U17 boys team finished in an excellent 5th place with another great performance from Alan Cavanagh finishing 15th in a very high standard race. Mark McGowan, 50th, Stefan Connolly 51st, Ross Wherity 69th, Ronan McCabe 70th.

Falkirk, Scotland - 18th October
Jill Shannon placed 13th (24.40) and Fionnuala Britton was 14th (24.42) in the Senior/Junior Women's 6,400m race. Shannon (Lagan Valley) and Britton (Slí Chulann) were teammates at the 2001 World Cross Championships in Ostend, Belgium. Hayley Yelling won the race in 22.24.

Tom Carey, from Limerick placed 9th in the Senior/Junior Men's event covering the 9,600m course in 30.48. Peter Reilly (Trafford AC) won the event in 29.25 with training partner Scotsman Graeme Reid (Clydesdale Harriers) in 4th at 30.11. Carey, Riley and Reid are all recent Iona College graduates where Dubliner Mick Byrne coached them.
