The Providence College men and women's outdoor track teams competed at the 2002 Big East Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex in Storrs, Connecticut, on May 3-5. Both Friars teams finished 11th out of 14 teams. |
Junior Róisín McGettigan (Wicklow) earned her second-consecutive Big East Outdoor Track and Field Individual title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship, with a first-place finish in a time of 10.24.70. In the 5,000-meter run, freshman Mary Cullen (Sligo, Ireland) led all PC runners with a fifth-place finish (16.44.73). Cullen's time is a NCAA provisional qualifier. On the men's side, Dermot Galvin (Kilrush, Co. Clare) led all Friar scorers with a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, with a time of 29.52.20. Freshman Patrick Guidera (Clonmel, Co. Tipperary) placed eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with a time of 9.12.24. Liam Reale (Hospital, Co. Limerick) placed fifth in the 1,500-metre event running 3.47.35. This is Reale's second time under the 3.48.00 qualifying time for the World Junior Championships to be held in Jamaica in July. Paul Reilly (Loughrea, Co. Galway) finished fifth in the 5,000m in 14.29.80. |
