While the IAAF rule states that, "All performances must be achieved during the period 1 January 2000 to 23 July 2001"; it appears that the Athletic Association of Ireland is only recognising marks made during calendar year 2001. This is consistent with policies implemented in recent years for major championships. Achieving the "A" standard virtually assures selection but meeting the 'B' standard in an event where no athlete has met the 'A' will allow the athlete to be considered for selection but not guaranteed. 2001 IAAF World Championship Qualifying Standards
