Eoin Cummins Wins Inaugural Irish Milers Club 1,500m Race

The Irish Milers Club 1500 metre race held in Santry Stadium on 27th July2001, at a Graded Meeting organized by the Dublin County Board, was noteworthy for the number of personal bests and seasonal bests achieved.

The race was well paced by Stephen Kavanagh (Clonliffe Harriers). The athletes went through 800m in 2.04 with the field packed with a lap remaining. With 180m to go, Eoin Cummins (UCD), the reigning U-23 800m champion made an unstoppable surge to win in 3.50.1 over St Malachy's Gary Murray, a close second in 3.50.6. Paul Campbell (Raheny Shamrocks) won the scrap for third place from Garett Coughlan (Fr. Murphy's).

Cummins chopped over 4 seconds from his best 1,500m while Campbell took off 3.5 seconds from his PB at the distance. Gary Murray, Colin Walsh (Tullamore Harriers), Gary O'Hanlon (Kilkerley) and Ian Morrison (Donore) all achieved season bests.
