At a wet and cool Graded meeting in Santry, organized by the Dublin County Board on Wednesday 8 August, Raymond Adams, Lagan Valley AC, caught David Campbell close to the line to win the special 800M race sponsored by the Irish Milers Club. The Graded "A" race was merged with the Irish Milers race to produce a very competitive 16 man race field. Ably paced by Eoin Cummins, UCD, to 550M, the field got stretched as the pace really heated up. David Campbell bravely followed the pace and only had Adams as a pursuer for the last 250M. With 50 M to go Campbell grudgingly gave way to the gutsy Adams. They fought to the line in a superb time, given the conditions, with 1.50.0 given to the winner, with Campbell getting an excellent new PB of 1.50.2, a really great standard for one so young. David Kelly, DSD, who put in many superb performances earlier in the year, was not at his best on the night coming in third in 1.54.4. The other notable performances on the night included a great win for Rosie Ryan in the women's A 3000m with Maria Lynch, DSD, second; Siobhan Eviston, Raheny taking the women's "A" 800m in very promising style, Michael Coyle, Naas AC winning the men's "B" 800M with great style; Daniel Tobin, Clonliffe winning the "A" 400M; Colin Walsh, Tullamore Harriers winning the men's 3000m from Garrett Coughlan, Fr Murphy's. |
