All Time Irish Women's 1500m List
Results From Monaco & Night of Athletics

Geraldine Hendricken (St Laurence O'Toole AC) moved to second on the Irish All-Time 1,500 metre lists when finishing 8th in Friday (19th July) night's Golden League Meeting in Monaco.

Moving through the field strongly over the final 400m Geraldine clocked a time of 4.03.18. Prior to this season, Henricken was ranked 19th on The Irish all-time lists with a clocking of 4.16.42 dating back to 1991.

The revised Irish All Time Women's 1,500m top 4 reads:
1st Sonia O'Sullivan 3.58.85 - 1995
2nd Geraldine Hendricken 4.03.18 - 2002
3rd Sinead Delahunty, 4.04.22 - 1998
4th Monica Joyce, 4.06.69 - 1982

Also at Monaco, Sonia 0'Sullivan lost her European 3,000 metre record tonight when Gabriella Szabo (Romania) ran 8.21.42 to break O'Sullivan's (8.21.65) European record in Monaco. Paula Radcliffe set a new UK record of 8.22.20 when finishing 2nd while Kenya's Edith Masai recorded a new Kenyan and African record in 3rd with her 8.23.23 clocking.

Night of Athletics, Heusden, Belgium 20th July 2002
Irish women took 4 of the top 13 spots in the women's 5,000m led by Sonia O'Sullivan (3rd, 15.18.07). Una English was 6th in 15.34.25 followed by Maria McCambridge (DSD) in 7th (15.39.01) and Anne Keenan Buckley (13th, 15.55.59). Neither McCambridge or English dipped under the Atheltics Ireland European Championships standard of 15.30. The actual EAA European Standard is 15.44.00.

James Nolan (UCD) placed 14th in the 1,500m in 3.42.55 Colm McLean (St Malachy's) placed 13th in the 1,500m B race in 3.49.11 Maria Lynch (Dundrum South Dublin) placed 5th in the women's mile in 4.33.22 passing the 1,500-metre mark in 4:13.2.
