Donore Harrier - Irish Team Manager

The death has occurred of well-known and respected athletics official Mr. Brendan Foreman, after a short illness at the age of 84.

Donore harriers

He was a member of the AAUE Council for many years before becoming the Honorary Secretary and was instrumental in the merger between the AAUE and the NACA, which led to the formation of BLE in 1967. He was the inaugural International Secretary for BLE before becoming Honorary Secretary in the 70's and was rewarded for his excellence in athletics administration when he was elected Honorary Secretary of the OCI in the 80's, a position he held with esteem until 1996.

He was Irish Team manager at the Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968 and his daughter Deirdre (Nagle) competed in many World CC Championships and ran the marathon in the inaugural IAAF World Championships in Helsinki in 1983. His son-in-law, Dermot Nagle, held the post of Honorary Secretary in the last ever BLE Management Committee.

Known for his forthright, honest, straight talking views, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

His funeral took place at St Vincent's Marino Church, on Monday, 20th May.
