Colin Costello further added to Team Ireland's recent medal successes when he took silver in the 1,500 metres and bronze in the 2,000m Steeplechase event at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Paris on 28th - 31st July. Costello was part of a remarkable run of results for Irish athletes over the past few weeks at the various underage Major Championships. Earlier this month, Costello took a magnificent 5th place in the final of the 1,500m in a personal best time of 3.51.55 at in the IAAF World Youth Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada on 10th July. This brings the total of major medals won by Irish athletes this Summer to five and with the World Championships and World University Games still to come it looks like being Ireland's most successful Summer in depth for many years, possibly ever. | Colin Costello on the Rostrum in Paris ![]() |
