200m - Ciara Sheehy was 3rd in 23.53 (-0.4). Running in the B Race Mark Howard ran 21.56 (-0.5) for 3rd while Karl Kennedy (Clonliffe Harriers) was 5th in the A Race 22.78 (-1.3). 400m - Rob Daly (Dundrum South Dublin ) placed 5th in 46.82 while in the women's race, Fiona Norwood (Kilkenny City Harriers) placed fourth in 55.96. 800m - Rising star David Kelly (DSD) placed a distant 3rd (1st place was Botswana's Otukile Lekote, 1.46.58) in 1.50.29 with Ciaran O'Connell (Glaslough Harriers) in 4th in 1.50.36. In the women's race Agnes Samaria (Namibia) won in 2.02.12 with three Irish women under 2.07. They were led by Adrienne McIvor (Dublin City Harriers) 2.05.54 in 3rd, Niamh Beirne (Lucan Harriers AC) 2.06.62 in 5th and Aoife Byrne (Dundrum South Dublin) 2.06.85 in 6th. 1000m - The women ran the rarely run 2 1/2 lap 1000 metre event with 2001 Irish sensation Freda Davoren (UCC) beating the young Australian Olympian Georgie Clark for second running 2.43.10 and Deirdre Fleming (Dublin City Harriers) placing 4th in 2.48.91. Morton Mile - Kenyan Edwin Maranga time-trialed to 4.00.78 with the race for second going to Brit John Mayo (4.09.17). The Irish took the next four spots with 3) Mark Kenneally, Raheny Shamrocks 4.09.67; 4) Killian Lonergan, Clonliffe Harriers 4.13.74; 5) Noel Pollock, Lagan Valley AC 4.13.95 and John Paul O'Brien, Crookstown Millview AC running 4.14.41 for 6th place. 3,000m - This event was an all Irish affair with Robert Connolly (Dundrum South Dublin) running 8.10.35 to edging Seamus Power (Kilmurray/Ibrickane AC) who was second in 8.11.49. Running without barriers Cormac Smyth, (DSD) covered the three kilometres in 8.13.56 for third. The women's event was for juniors. Hazel Murphy, now back in shape placed second (10.08.56) more than ten ticks clear of cross country legend Fionnula Britton (Slí Chulann AC) who placed third in 10.19.87. 3,000m Walk - New World Record Holder (5k Walk) Gillian O'Sullivan (Farranfore Maine Valley AC) easily won the event in 12.34.71. Hurdles - Crusaders Peter Coghlan placed second in 13.91 (-0.5) Derval O'Rourke (UCD) placed 4th in 13.72 (-2.2). In the men's 400m hurdle event, Stephen McDonnell (DCH) placed 3rd in 51.53. Javelin - Ben Houghton placed 5th with a throw of 68.39m. Triple Jump - Patrick Shannon (DCH) won with a leap of 13.90m (-0.5). Sharon Foley Gallen (Lifford AC) was second with a leap of 11.87 (+0.4). Pole Vault - Eloise DuBraird (DCH) won in 3.20m. High Jump - Geraldine Stewart (Tirchonaill AC) cleared 1.60m for sixth. |
