For the second consecutive year, a Stony Brook runner won the women's title at the America Conference Cross Country Championships. Senior Jackie Nunez (Mt. Sinai, New York) won the title breaking her own course record of 17.31 for the 5-kilometre course the University at Albany on 1st November. Former Seawolf All-American Jenny Payne captured the crown in 2002. Irish Olympian (Barcelona 1992 - Marathon) Andy Ronan is in his fourth year at Stony Brook University in New York and continues to make an impact. In the men's race Stony Brook was led by Dale Summerville (Waiuku, New Zealand) who finished 4th in 25.10. Brian Farrell from Wicklow placed 12th in 25.53. The University of New Hampshire won both the men and women's conference title with 42 and 40 points respectively. Waterford's Gavin Kennedy who competes for DePaul University placed 21st at the Conference USA Championships at the University of South Florida Golf Course in Tampa, Florida in 1st November. Kennedy, a junior covered the 8-kilometre course in 26.00.6. DePaul teammate and fellow Irishman, Richard Byrne, from Dublin placed 41st in 26.42.4. Robbie Wade, from the Loyola University - Chicago placed 7th and teammate Sean Conroy placed 13th at the Horizon League Championships held at Avalon South Golf Course in Warren, Ohio on 1st November. Wade (Portlaw, Co Waterford) ran 25.42.7 on the 8k-course with Conroy, from Cork running 26.11.3. Wade qualified as an individual for last fall's NCAA Championships. Mairead O'Callaghan, a senior at Harvard placed 28th in the Ivy League (Heptagonal Conference) Championships on Friday, 31st October. Enda Grandfield, from Western Kentucky University placed 8th in the Sun Belt Cross Country Championships held in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Grandfield, from Kerry ran 27.07.2 on the 8,000m Kereiakes Park course. Joe Byrne (Down Patrick, North Ireland) and Diarmuid Grant (Derry, North Ireland) compete for Southern Illinois Univeristy in Carbondale, Illinois. Byrne was the top runner for the Salukis finishing fifth overall at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships held in Des Moines, Iowa on 1st November. Byrne ran 24.34 on the 8k course with Grant placing 13th in 24.58. Leevale's Alan Foolkes who competes for McNeese State placed 20th in 27.06.9 at the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships held in Huntsville, Texas on 3rd November. Wes Alkin, a recent transfer from the University of Arkansas who now competes for Eastern Michigan University placed 12th at the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships held in Mayfair, Ohio on Saturday, 1st November. The Dublin-born Alkin covered the 8-kilometre course in 24.42.4 helping his team place second with 48 points behind Central Michigan's 46-point total. Thomas Quaid, who competes for Missouri Southern University (NCAA Division II) placed 50th in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Conference Championship held in Kirksville, Missouri on 25th October.
