Killian Lonergan (Clonliffe) placed sixth in the 5,000m running a personal best 13.48.74. Gareth Turnbull (St Malachy's) won the 800m in 1.47.96 at the BUSA Championships held in Bedford, England on 4-6 May. Turnbull easily won his qualifying rounds as well in 1.54.7 and 1.54.55. Teammate Conor Sweeney won the 1,500-metre event in 3.44.31 with Tom Frazer (St Malachy's) placing seventh in 3.54.93. Tom Frazer won the 1,500m A race in 3.53.0 at the BUSA Trial held at Loughborough on 27th April. |

Western Kentucky University sophomore Enda Grandfield won two events to help his Hilltopper team place third at the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Championships held at the Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana on 10-12 May. Grandfield (Killorglin, Co. Kerry) won the 10,000m on Friday night in 32.18.64 and the 5,000-metre event on Sunday in 14.37.91. |

In the women's meet for Western Kentucky University, Olga Cronin (East Cork) won the 5,000-meter run in a time of 17.35.14, followed in second by Jill Shannon (Jordantown, North Ireland) who posted a time of 17.37.39. Shannon, who runs for Lagan Valley AC also won a silver medal in the 1,500 metres running 4.39.28. Cronin placed second in the 3,000m steeplechase in 11.06.28. Terri Hennessy of East Cork placed 8th in the 10,000m in 41.25.99. |

Terry McHugh (Dublin City Harriers) won the javelin with a throw of 77.88m in an event held in Magglingen, Switzerland on 18th May. His throw was just short of European Championship standard of 78.00m. Mark McManus (Drumcondra, Co. Dublin), who competes for the Nike Farm Team placed 12th in mile running 4.11.71 at the Victoria International Track Classic on 22nd May in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Deirdre Fleming (Dublin City Harriers) placed second in the 800m running 2.11.07 in chilly, damp Irish weather conditions in the Boston High Performance Meeting at Waltham High School in Waltham, Massachusetts on 18th May. In a warm-up for his NCAA qualifying attempt at next week's IC4A meet, Iona's Vinny Mulvey won the 10,000m in 30.22.58 at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships held at St. John's University in Jamaica, New York on 10-11 May. Mulvey (Rahney Shamrocks) edged Iona teammate Graeme Reid from Scotland who ran 30.22.82. Sean Connolly, a first year runner at Iona from Tallaght placed third in the 1,500m (3.52.39) and fith at 800m (1.57.60). Dubliner Deborah McGowan, who competes for the University of Texas at Arlington, ran a seasonal best of 4.57.95 in the 1,500m at the Michael Johnson Invitational held at Baylor University in Waco, Texas on 20th April. Her other seasonal bests were 11.14.35 in the 3,000m and 19.14.92 for the 5,000-metre event. |

At the Georgia Tech Invitational held in Atlanta, Georgia on 16-18 May. Tommy Evans (High Point University) placed fourth in the 5,000m in 14.47.29. Western Kentucky University duo Olga Cronin (East Cork) and Jill Shannon (Lagan Valley AC) competed in the women's 1,500 metres. Cronin was 14th in 4.33.60 with Shannon running 4.34.46 and placing 16th in the race. Evans, a junior was High Point University. Evans, from Kilkenny won the 5,000m (15.00.71) and 10,000m individual titles in the Big South Conference Championships held in Lynchburg, Virginia on 19-20 April. His seasonal bests are: 4.06.84 (1,500m), 8.28.43 (3,000m) and 14.42.96 in the 5,000m. |
