Mt. SAC Relays
Alistair Cragg (University of Arkansas) won the 5,000-metre event in 13.25.59 at the Mt. SAC Relays on 17th April in Walnut, California.

While Cragg's time is fastest run by a US Collegian this season and qualifies him for the NCAA Regional meet by almost a minute (14.25.00), he missed the World Championships 'A' Standard of 13.21.50.

Cragg also has the fastest US Collegiate time in 1,500m with his 3.39.24. Dublin-born Wes Alkin, also from Arkansas placed 21st in the 10,000 metres running 30.31.40.

Princeton Quad
Iona College lads Mark Smyth from Sligo and Joe McAlister from Belfast were in action at the Princeton Quad meet versus Rutgers and Manhattan College on 17th April. McAlister placed 3rd in the 3,000m in 8.40.36 with Smyth getting 5th in the 1,500m in 3.55.33.



Brown University Invitational
Providence College's Mary Cullen successfully stepped down to the 1,500-metre event winning it in 4.25.91 with teammate Emer O'Shea placing 3rd in 4.28.30 at the Brown University Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island on 12th April. Irish record holder in the 3,000m steeplechase won her specialty in 10.28.34. Roisin McGettigan 10:28.34. PC's Patrick Guidera ran a brilliant steeplechase race covering the hurdle-riddled event in 9.07.85, an NCAA Regional qualifier (9.12.00) and placing 2nd in the race. Teammate Liam the Reale Thing also qualified (1.51.15) winning the 800m in 1.49.89. It was refreshing to see the Reale (Hospital, Co Limerick) finish a race on his feet after two tumbles earlier in March. Paul Reilly showed a bit of speed earning the runner-up spot in the 1,500m (3.50.58) and Martin Fagan ran 14.59.02 for 6th in the 5k.

John McDonnell Invitational
Alistair Cragg (University of Arkansas) won the 1,500-metre event in 3.39.24 at the John McDonnell Invitational on 12th April in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The time is a 2.86 improvement on his personal best set in last year's meeting. Wes Alkin placed 3rd in the 3,000m in 8.15.86.

Seminole Track Invitational
Enda Grandfield (Castleisland, Co. Kerry) who competes for Western Kentucky University won the 2-mile in 9.08.76 at the Seminole Track Invitational at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida on 11th - 12th April. Olga Cronin, also from WKU placed 3rd in the 1,500m running 4.36.43.

LSU Alumni Gold
Alan Foolkes (McNeese State) placed 8th in the 3,000m steeplechase running 9.53.07 at the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational held on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on 12th April.

Tom Botts Invitational
Tom Chamney (Notre Dame) won the 800m in 1.49.55 at the Tom Botts Invitational held at the University of Missouri on 11th-12th April in Columbia, Missouri. The time qualifies (1.51.15) Chamney for the NCAA Regional to be held on 30-31 May.

Stanford Invitational
Olga Cronin (Midleton, Co. Cork) who competes for Western Kentucky University placed 4th in her section, 22nd overall in the 5,000m in 16.55.31 at the Stanford Invitational on 29th March in Palo Alto, California. University of Notre Dame runner Thomas Chamney from Clonmel, Co. Tipperary, ran in the top section of the 800 meters, taking 12th place in 1.52.01.



Raleigh Relays
Providence College senior Róisín McGettigan from Wicklow led the Friars with a first-place finish in the 1,500 metres run with a time of 4.24.72 at the Raleigh Relays on 27-29 March on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Also in the 1,500 meter run, sophomore Deirdre Byrne (Avoca, Co Wicklow) placed third (4.26.86). In the 5,000-metre run, PC sophomore Mary Cullen from Sligo finished second with a time of 16.23.32. Emer O'Shea was 11th in the 800m in 2.14.05. Also, Providence won the 4 x 1,500 relay in a time of 18.15.43. On the men's side, graduate student Paul Reilly (Loughrea, Co Galway) finished sixth (14.19.89) in the 5,000-metre run with Leevale's James Grufferty (East Tennessee State) placed 48th in the 5k in 15.05.72. Providence pair Pat Guidera (Clonmel, Co. Tipperary) placed 17th in the 3k steeplechase in 9.36.81 while Martin Fagan (Mullingar, Co. Westmeath) placed 33rd in the 1,500m in 4.06.62.

Alabama Relays
Corkwoman Olga Cronin (Western Kentucky University) won the 1,500m in 4.34.28 at the Alabama Relays held 20-23 March at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Cronin's WKU teammate Enda Grandfield, from Co Kerry placed 3rd in the men's 1,500-metre event in 3.55.51 with Damien Bateman running 4.00.58 for 6th place. Cronin ran the anchor 1,600m leg the Lady Hilltoppers winning Distance Medley Relay (11:49.07) and Grandfield ran the opening 1,200m leg on WKU 6th Place DMR (10.51.11) team. Leevale's Alan Foolkes (McNeese State) placed 22nd in the 5k running 15.55.45.

Florida State Relays
Breeda Dennehy Willis (Bandon AC) won the 1,500m in 4:17.99 at the Florida State University Relays on 22nd March in Tallahassee, Florida.
