The Providence College women's indoor track team competed at the Yale Invitational on Saturday, 11th January in New Haven, Connecticut. The Friars' distance medley relay (DMR) team comprised of Heather Cappello (Lockport, New York, USA.), Róisín Quinn (Co. Waterford), Deirdre Byrne (Co. Wicklow) and All-American Mary Cullen (Co. Sligo) finished the relay in a time of 11:46.14, which was 14 seconds clear of their closest competitors. |
The PC women's team will be chasing the NCAA Indoor Championships Standard for the DMR (1,200m-400m-800m-1,600m), which is 11.21.00 with the Provisional Standard set at 11.42.00. Adding All-American Indoor Miler Róisín McGettigan should improve their chances of achieving the qualifying time. Ray Treacy's men's team also competed at Yale competed at the Yale Invitational with Liam Reale (Hospital, Co. Limerick) winning the 800-metre run in 1.54.56. Patrick Guidera (Clonmel, Co. Tipperary) placed 9th in the mile in 4.28.21. The Friars distance medley relay team took second-place as the quartet of Paul Reilly (Loughrea, Co. The East Tennessee State University's men's distance medley relay team finished first in a time of 10.32.21 at the Appalachian Indoor Track Meet hosted by Appalachian State University and held at the George Holmes Convocation Center on 7th December. The men's team was comprised of Leevale's James Grufferty (Glanmire, Co. Cork), Donald Cabbler (Roanoke, Virginia), David Haefner (Hamburg, New York) and Brad Yewer (Newbury, England). Providence College alum, Stephanie O'Reilly set a course record winning the Norwood (Massachusetts) Turkey Trot on 24th November. O'Reilly from Wicklow covered the 4-mile course in 22.36, more than a minute in from runner-up Joanne Matthews (24.03) from Massachusetts. Providence College's Paul Reilly from Loughrea, Co.
