Paul Reilly (Loughrea, Co. Galway) ran 14.20.24 for 13th in the men's 5k. Maria Lynch (Dundrum South Dublin) placed second (4.10.65) and Ann Marie Larkin (Tullamore Harriers) was seventh (4.23.21) in the 1,500m at the British Milers Club Nike Grand Prix meeting at the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton, England on 3rd July. Expatriate James McIlroy won the 800-metre event in 1.47.69. |

Geraldine Hendricken (St Laurence O'Toole's) placed seventh in the 1,500m (4.05.72) at the Athletissima 2002 IAAF Grand Prix meeting held in Lausanne, Switzerland on 2nd July. Hendricken, who came into the season with a best time of 4.16.42 set back in 1991, has now put herself in prime contention for a place in the final of the European Championships, which take place in Munich in August. Her time places her 3rd on the All-time list behind Sonia O'Sullivan (3.58.85) and Sinead Delahunty (4.04.22). Sonia O'Sullivan won the 1,500m Race A in 4.09.06 with countrywoman Maria Lynch placing second in 4.13.57 at the British Milers Club Nike Grand Prix meeting at the Norman Green Athletics Centre in Solihull, England on 22nd June. Niamh Beirne was fifth in 4.17.95 and Ann Marie Larkin seventh in 4.23.20. |

Karen Shinkins (DCH) placed fourth in the 400m (52.73) and Paul McKee (Cuchulainn AC), the new Irish record holder (45.62) placed second in the 400m Race #2 running 46.25 at the Venizelia Meeting held in Chania, Greece on 30th June. Sonia O'Sullivan (Cobh AC) won the 3,000-metre event in 8.44.02 at the Norwich Union Classic IAAF GP II meeting held in Sheffield, England on 30th June. O'Sullivan avenged her Prefontaine loss edging American Marla Runyan who placed second in 8.46.67. Mark Carroll (Leevale AC) ran 8.04.28 to place 15th in the men's 3,000-metre. Desmond English (Dundrum South Dublin) placed fourth in the Men's Elite 1,500m running 3.46.28 at the New Balance Boston I High Performance meeting held in Waltham, Massachusetts on 29th June. Wicklow's Stephanie O'Reilly placed 6th in the women's Elite 1,500m in 4.33.71. Maria McCambridge (Dundrum South Dublin) placed 15th in the 5,000 metres in 15.50.47 at the Exxon Mobil Bislett Games IAAF Golden League meeting held in Oslo, Norway on 28th June. Karen Shinkins (Dublin City Harriers) ran 52.98 to place 6th in the 400 metres at the Spitzen Leichtathletik meeting held in Lucerne, Switzerland on 26th June. Terry McHugh also from DCH placed 7th in the javelin with a throw of 78.36m. Sonia O'Sullivan (Cobh AC) easily won the women's 10,000 metres in 31.33.19, acquiring the European Championship qualifier she needed at the Aqua-Pura Commonwealth Trials held at the new City of Manchester Stadium on 15th-16th June. Rosemary Ryan began the race but did not finish. Conor Sweeney (St Malachy's) ran 3.44.79 to place fifth in his qualifying heat in the 1,500-metre event. Sweeney placed 12th in the final (3.52.23) - a tactical affair where the group strolled through the first two laps at 64.1 and 66.4 (2.10.5). On again, off-again Irishwoman, Taniesha Scanlon placed third in the triple jump in 12.69m. Fresh off her recent Northern Ireland record run of 16.26.24 set a fortnight ago, Maria Skelton (Lagan Valley) placed 10th in the 5,000m in 16:58.64. Adrienne McIvor placed third in her 800 metre trial (heat 1) in 2:04.90 qualifying on time while Kelly McNeice placed third in 2:08.10 in heat 2 and failed to advance. McIvor ran 2:04.06 in the final placing sixth. Raymond Adams placed fifth in his 800 metre trial (heat 3) in 1:54.18 and did not qualify for the final. Zoe Brown placed 14th in the pole vault in 3.45m. Iain McMullan placed sixth in the shot putt with a toss of 16.78m. Dermot Donnelly placed ninth in the 5,000m in 14.2.54. Una English (Dublin City Harriers placed second in the 5,000m running 15.41.98 at the Meeting du Nord Villeneuve d'Ascq-Lille held in France on 16th June. Ciara Sheehy won the 100 metres in 11.76 (0.0) and placed second in the 200m in 23.80 (-0.4) at the AtletiCAGenève Georges Caillat Memorial meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland on 15th June. Deirdre Ryan won the high jump in 1.80m. On the men's side, Tom Comyns placed 6th (Race #2) in the 100m in 10.91 (+0.5) and 5th Mark Howard was 5th (Race #3) in 10.69 (-0.2). Gary Ryan was 6th in the 200m running 21.24 (+0.2). Robert Daly placed 3rd in the 400-metre event in 46.46 with Stephen McDonnell (Cuchulainn AC) winning the 400m hurdles in 52.07. Ciaran McDonagh was 10th in the long jump with a leap of 7.03m. James Nolan (UCD) ran 1.48.86 placing sixth in the 800 metres at the Internationales Askina Sportfest held in Kassel, Germany on 14th June. St Malachy's grad Colm McLean placed 8th in the 1,500m (3.41.79) with Maria Lynch placing seventh in the women's event in 4.16.35. |
