Sean Connolly, who competes for Iona College ended an impressive collegiate career with two personal bests despite an injury plagued senior season. He closed out his outdoor campaign at the IC4A Championships on 12th - 13th May at Princeton University. On Friday night, he ran 14.29.59 to place 14th in the 5,000 metres. On Saturday, he ran 3.52.40 in his qualifying heat of the 1,500m and failed to advance to the final. Connolly, who competes for Tallaght AC in Ireland, ran a brilliant 4:05.9 mile leg on Iona's 4 x mile relay at Penn Relays on 29th April in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. |
The Iona team comprised of senior Stephen Chemlany (4.07.1), junior Tim Bayley (4.02.4), senior Sean Connolly (4.05.9) and anchor leg senior Richard Kiplagat (3.59.4) ran 16.15.50 to place second behind the University of Arkansas by less than a half-second (.48) and shattered the school record by more than 14 seconds. Connolly, 23, placed third in the 1,500 metes at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference held at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey on 7th May. Connolly ran 3.48.32 narrrowly missing the NCAA Regional Standard of 3:47.80. Connolly set a personal best 29.37.05 to place 13th in the second heat of the 10,000 metres at the Stanford Invitational on 31st March in Palo Alto, California. Connolly began the season with a tempo-10k running 30.45.87 to virtually tie with Iona teammate (Mohamed Khadraoui - 30.45.85) at the Virginia Commonwealth University Ram Invitational in Richmond, Virginia on 16th March. |
