Richard Byrne, who competes for DePaul University in Chicago Illinois ran 4.00.67 in his 1,500-metre qualifying heat and did not reach the final at the 2006 Big East Conference Championships on the campus of the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut on 6th - 7th May.

Byrne, who competes for Bohermeen AC in Ireland, placed 11th in the 1,500 metres with a time of 3.57.05 at the Bulldog Classic held at the University of Louisville in Kentucky on 22nd April.

Byrne, 21, ran 3.57.20 to place eighth at the Long Beach Invitational on 14th April in Long Beach, California.

A day earlier, 13th April, Byrne who attended North Monastery under the tutelage of Brother John Dooley placed 10th in his section and 24th overall with a time of 3.57.96 in the 1,500m University Division at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays in Walnut, California.

Byrne, a junior, placed seventh in the 1,500m in 4.03.67 at the Chicagoland Intercollegiate Track and Field Championships held in Naperville, Illinois on 8th April.

On 1st April, Byrne doubled at the Notre Dame Spring Opener in South Bend, Indiana. He won the 1,500-metre event in 4.03.2 (hand-timed) and placed fifth in the 800m in 1.59.15.

Byrne opened his 2006 outdoor campaign running 15.43.32 to place 14th at the 2006 Saluki Spring Classic which took place on the campus of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois 25th March.

Byrne's personal best in the 1,500m is 3.51.35 set at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on 15th April 2005.
