Providence College graduate Liam Reale ran back-to-back personal bests at the Boston High Performance Series meets held at Bentley College in Waltham Massachusetts. Reale, from Hospital, Co Limerick, won the 800 Metre Elite race in 1.50.96 with second place (Christopher Green, 1.56.57) nearly six seconds adrift at the first meet held on 21st May. Also competing at the opening Boston High Performance Series were Róisín McGettigan and Marie McMahon Davenport. McGettigan, who competes for New Balance, had a rare opportunity to run the 2,000m steeplechase where she soloed to victory in 6.44.93. |
Davenport, who like McGettigan will be competing at the European Championships in August, tuned up with a 3,000m race. Davenport, 31, was the first woman in a mixed field, covering the distance in 9.17.28. Both athletes will be racing at the Reebok Grand Prix event in New York on Saturday, 3rd June. At the second meet in the Series, Reale, 23, ran a massive personal best of nearly four seconds in the 1,500-metre event. Coming into the meet, Reale's best was 3.42.33 also set at a Boston High Performance on 5th June 2004. Reale finished in the runner-up position at the second meet held on 27th May clocked in 3.38.65. The time is well under the European Championship Standard of 3.41.00 and appears that Reale will be Göteborg bound in August. | Liam Reale Runs 3.38.65 at Boston High Performance ![]() |
