Joanne Cuddihy confidently qualified to the 400m Semifinal with a class performance in her opening round race. Cuddihy, 22, ran 51.41 to place second in Heat 1 of 4 opening races. It is her third sub-52 second perfomance of the 2006 season highlighted by her personal best 51.28 effort at the National Championships. Cuddihy may have to improve on that time and approach Karen Shinkins' Irish record of 51.07 in order to qualify for the final. Emily Maher picked up a hamstring injury while warming up for the 100m preliminary race leaving Anna Boyle as the lone Irish representative. Anna Boyle placed fifth in the first of four opening raound races. Boyle, who competes for Ballymena & Antrim AC, ran 11.60 (+0.8) to place fifth in her race. The time is .11 off her personal best of 11.49 set at this year's Cork City Sports meet. | ||
