Martin Fagan ran 8.06.40 to place second in the 3,000-metre event at the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletics in America (IC4A) held at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts on 4th - 5th February. Fagan is currently ranked 17th on the NCAA Performance List for the 3,000m with his 7.57.69 run on 6th February in Boston and awaits word on whether or not it is enough to qualify for the NCAA Champs. |
Just three places behind Fagan in the IC4A meet was Brian Farrell who just missed setting yet another personal best in the 3,000m. Farrell, from Wicklow who competes for Stony Brook University ran 8.17.05 to place 6th overall - his PB is 8.16.82 run an the same Boston University track on 27th January. Ray Treacy's Providence College women's team placed 4th in the Distance Medley Relay (1200m-400m-800m-1600m) at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track Centre in Boston, Massachusetts on 4th - 5th March. The Friars team comprised of Meghan Owen, Róisín Quinn, Nelle Trefz and Mary Cullen. Quinn, from Waterford ran 59.8 for her 400-metre leg. Cullen, who is ranked #1 on both the 3,000 and 5,000 metres NCAA Performance List, anchored the relay with a scintillating 4.33.7 split! This show of speed should fill the Sligo star with confidence ahead of next week's 5k/3k double at the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Iona College junior Michelle Gallagher placed 20th in the 3,000m in 9.52.82. Gallagher, who competes for Dundrum South Dublin ran her personal best of 9.47.68 at the 2004 ECAC meet where she placed 7th overall. |

Liam RealeLiam Reale just missed setting a personal best in the mile at the Florida Fast Times Qualifier held on 2nd March 2006 in Gainesville, Florida. Reale's PB is 4.01.53 set last year on February 5th in Boston. Reale, from Hospital, Co. Limerick ran 4.02.14 to finish 2nd between winner Tom Lancashire of Florida State in 3.58.52 and St Malachy's Gareth Turnbull in 4.07.59. Both Turnbull and Reale are in the midst of warm-weather training with Mark Carroll in Florida. Robert Wade, a senior at the University of Loyola-Chicago earned a gold and a silver medal at the 2006 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Kent State University on 25th - 26th February. Wade won the 5,000 metres in 14.44.81 and placed second in the 3,000m with a time of 8.27.43. Fresh off her national record performance of 3.73m a week ago, University of South Alabama junior Erin Kinnear placed second at the 2006 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Middle Tennessee State on 25th February with a vault of 3.55m. Michelle Gallagher chopped over 15 seconds from her 3k time from last week at MAAC Championship to qualify for the ECAC Championship with a time of 9:51.50 at the New Balance NYU Fastrack Invitational held at the 168th Street Armory in New York City on 24th February. Aidan Walsh (Kilnamanagh, Co. Dublin) who graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2002, placed 2nd in the mile in 4.07.95. |
