Irish Results from US Collegiate Cross Country

Loyola University-Chicago senior Sean Conroy placed 17th at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational held at Montrose Avenue Beach on Chicago's North Side on Saturday, 2nd October. Conroy, from Cork ran 25.07 on the 8-kilometre course with teammate Robbie Wade (Portlaw, Co Waterford) finishing 20th in 25.14. Joe Byrne (Down Patrick, North Ireland) who competes for Southern Illinois University placed 26th in 25.22.

Villanova sophomore Richard Corcoran placed 55th at the Brooks Paul Short Memorial cross country meet held on the Goodman Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on 1st October. Corcoran covered the 8-kilomtre course in 24.50.9. Marcus O'Sullivan's Villanova Wildcat team finished in a tie with host Lehigh University for 10th place with 298 points. Georgetown University won the team title with 123 points with Ryan Sheehan (St. Francis - Pennsylvania) running 23.52.6 for first place in the event.

Butler University junior Ava Hutchinson placed at the Notre Dame Invitational Cross Country Meet held at the Notre Dame Golf Course on Friday, 30th September. Hutchinson, who competes for Dundrum South Dublin covered the 5k course in 17.29.

Yale University sophomore Tadhg O'Callaghan was the pivotal fifth-man on the Bulldogs squad which beat archrival Harvard on Saturday, 1st October at the Yale-Harvard dual meet this weekend with a score of 26-29 held on the campus of Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.

Alistair Cragg placed second to Arkansas Razorback ex-teammate Josphat Boit at the Cowboy Jamboree cross country meet held at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma on 1st October. Cragg ran 24.40 on the 8k course some 7 seconds adrift of the Rift Valley's Boit. John McDonnell's second ranked Razorback team easily won the team title with 42 points well ahead of runner-up Abilene Christian with 106 points.

Michelle Murphy-Scott (Carraig na bhFear) placed second at the Dr Mark Allen Old Timers Classic cross country meet held at Kereiakes Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky on 17th September. Murphy-Scott is the women's cross country coach at Western Kentucky University. The Lady Hilltoppers will be in action next weekend at the Auburn Invitational in Auburn, Alabama.
