The 24th Evening Echo Cork Women's Mini Marathon in association with VHI will take place on Sunday September 18th in Cork City Centre. The 5-mile race promoted by the Cork County athletics is now one of the biggest races in the country. It has been run by the AAI (Athletics Association of Ireland) and the Evening Echo every year since it started. |
Munster's premier ladies road race, it is on the calendar of sports events for keen Irish sports women, and previous winners include Sonia O'Sullivan and Anne Keenan Buckley. More importantly it is also a major fun run/event for the ordinary ladies of Munster. No pressure is put on anyone; they can walk, jog or run the race. The big winners on the day are the charities - the race is a huge event for Irish charities to raise funds, with millions of euros raised for charities since the race began. There is a prize fund of almost €4000 this year which will attract a number of the countries top athletes. There are cash prizes for the first 10 as well as category prizes. First prize is €600. |
